French Vanilla Cake

After reading Pink's blog, I really wanted to make my own cake too. I went to Trader Joe's last night but they didn't have cake mix. Today, we went to Food 4 Less and I just bought a box of Betty Crocker Super Moist French Vanilla cake mix. I also got fresh strawberries for the topping and filling. They have two 9" cake pans for sale so I grabbed that too.

Instead of water, I used milk and instead of using oil, I used butter. One of my cake was lop sided and it's a little burnt on the bottom. While cake was cooling down, I made whipping cream by using heavy whipping cream. I added about 4 teaspoons of sugar powder. I forgot to buy vanilla extract so I used French vanilla syrup instead :P I added a bag of unflavored gelatin to my whipping cream.

I had a hard time putting the whipping cream on the cake evenly. I guess I'll need to buy tools next time. But over all, I think my cake turned out good. It taste decent, not dry and not too sweet.

  1. Looks so yummy!

You know, I don't have any fancy tools or anything. I usually just use a regular rubber spatula (you can get one for really cheap at Target, Walmart, etc.) and a metal knife. That's all you really need to get a nice finish. Nothing fancy. :)
